Graduate Visa

Privity Partners specializes in supporting international students with Home Office applications for the UK Graduate Visa. This post-study work visa allows students to remain in the UK for a fixed period after completing their studies. It’s crucial to understand the eligibility criteria and application process to maintain lawful status after your student visa expires.

What is the UK Graduate Visa?

The Graduate Visa is designed for international students who have successfully completed a UK bachelor’s degree or higher. It allows them to work, or look for work, in various job roles without needing a job offer or Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

Graduate Visa Requirements:

Applicants must meet specific criteria under the points-based system, totalling a minimum of 70 points:

  • Successful Completion Requirement: The applicant must have completed a course with a Home Office approved higher education provider.
  • Qualification Requirement: A UK bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, or specific professional qualifications are needed.
  • Studying in the UK Requirement: Applicants must have studied in the UK for the required duration, with allowances for COVID-19 related remote learning.

Application Process for Graduate Visa:

Applications are submitted online. Applicants must be in the UK with valid student leave and should not have previously been granted leave under the Doctorate Extension Scheme or as a Graduate. The application should be initiated after the education provider confirms course completion.

Visa Duration and Costs:

  • The visa duration depends on the qualification level – 2 years for bachelor’s or master’s degrees, and 3 years for PhDs.
  • The application fee is £715, and the Immigration Health Surcharge applies.

Processing Time:

The Graduate Visa typically takes up to 8 weeks to process, with applicants permitted to stay in the UK during this period.

Dependents and Post-Visa Options:

Dependents can apply to continue to remain the Graduate Visa holder if they are already present in the UK. Family members cannot be invited from overseas.

Post-Graduate Visa, the holder cannot extend their stay under this route and must switch to another visa category, such as the Skilled Worker route, to avoid overstaying.

Switching to Skilled Worker Visa:

  • For a Skilled Worker Visa, a valid CoS and a job meeting minimum skill and salary thresholds are required.
  • Dependents must meet specific eligibility requirements, including financial requirements.
  • Employers must conduct right-to-work checks and maintain a sponsorship license.
