Adult Dependant Relative Visa

The UK Adult Dependent Relative Visa is for adult dependent relatives of British citizens or settled persons who wish to settle in the UK.

Adult Dependant Relative Visa

The Adult Dependent Relative visa is designed for adult relatives of British citizens, UK-settled individuals, those under Appendix EU, and persons in the UK with refugee or humanitarian protection status, looking to settle in the UK.

Adult Dependent Relative Visa Requirements

To qualify for this visa, you must demonstrate:

  • You are an adult relative (parent, grandparent, sibling, or adult child) of someone in the UK who is over 18 and either a British citizen, settled, under Appendix EU, or has refugee or humanitarian protection status.
  • Due to age, illness, or disability, you need long-term personal care, which you can’t get in your current country due to unavailability or unaffordability.
  • Your UK-based family member will support and accommodate you without public funds. If they are British or settled, they must sign a 5-year support undertaking.
  • You have a TB test pass certificate, if applicable.

Additional Considerations for Adult Dependent Relative Visa

This visa necessitates the need for personal long-term care due to health conditions. However, meeting the requirement of unavailable or unaffordable care in the applicant’s home country can be challenging, especially when the UK sponsor can financially support for five years.

Settlement

A successful Adult Dependent Relative application results in the grant of indefinite leave to remain. There is no need to meet the English language of Knowledge of Life in the UK requirement.

Application Location

Applications must originate outside the UK. However, in specific situations, dependent relatives can apply from within the UK on human rights grounds. The difference is that Adult Dependent Relative applications are assessed under Appendix Adult Dependent Relative and those made on human right grounds are applications made outside of the Immigration Rules and subject to an assessment of exceptional circumstances and human rights of the dependant relative.
